Certified Master Builder™
Program Overview
The Home Builders Association's "Certified Master Builder"™ (CMB) Program is the first of its kind in Oregon and allows experienced builders to earn the designation "Certified Master Builder"™. This designation is only be held by those who have experience in the building industry, have demonstrated their interest in furthering their education and subscribe to a high standard of ethics and professionalism.
In order to earn the Certified Master Builder™ designation, builders must meet a strict set of entrance requirements, must complete 36 hours of education in building codes and business management, and pass an Oregon Building Codes Division exam on the building code.
The Certified Master Builder™ designation has several advantages for those earning the title:
- The right to advertise oneself as a "Certified Master Builder"™, a designation that sets a builder apart from the crowd.
- Many City/County Building Departments recognize these "Certified Master Builders"™ and allow them to self-certify some inspections and plan reviews, thereby speeding and streamlining that part of the construction process.
- Promotion of the program helps raise the image of "Certified Master Builders"™, and create public awareness.
